Stock Market Hours

If you want to be involved in the stock market, it is essential to know what the stock market hours are. There are different NASDQ sessions and hours depending on what will occur at a certain point of the day.

Since the majority of trading occurs in New York, you'll definitely need to keep in mind that all hours are in the Eastern Standard Time zone. If you're in a different time zone, calculate what the actual stock market hours are for you.

The pre-trading hours last from 7 in the morning to 9:30 in the morning. That means you'll need to be up bright and early to experience these. The regular market hours may be more important for you to learn. These span the longest period of all, and run from 9:30 in the morning to 4:00 in the afternoon. These hours work well because they encompass the workday for the average American.

There are even after-market hours. These last just four hours from 4:00 in the afternoon to 8:00 in the evening. If quotes are what you need, the quote and order-entry hours take place between 7:00 in the morning and 8:00 in the evening. As you can see, there is a lot of leeway for quote entry!

If you're after closing price information, it is based on the price at 4:01 pm. This is when the market is closed officially. The other sessions do not factor in at this point, so don't get confused about that when you consider stock market hours.

There is also a holiday schedule that you need to be concerned with. These dates include New Years Day on January 1st, Martin Luther King Day on January 15th, President's Day in February, Good Friday in April, Memorial Day in May Independence Day on July 4th, Labor Day in September, Thanksgiving Day in November, and Christmas Day on December 25th.

Knowing these dates and stock market hours is very important when you're involved in the stock market in any way. You can plan to buy and sell around these dates. The best thing to do is make sure you mark them on your calendar so that you're prepared.

Our #1 Online Stock Broker Pick - Zecco

We chose Zecco as our number 1 stock broker for a couple of reasons. The biggest plus is that they will give you 10 free stock trades every month. The only downside is that you need to have at least $2,500 worth of stocks or cash in your account to qualify for the free trades. However, they are still number 1 because even if you don't have that much money in your account the trades are only $4.50 each.
